Unassumingly Perfect

X is one of my personal favorite episodes of Teen Titans. A stand-alone with a small character story that works so extremely well; all because of the introduction of one the best villains on the show. Next to Slade, Red X is by far the most intriguing (and unabashedly perfect) antagonists to ever battle the Titans. A product of Robin's own mistakes and sporting the magnificent suit already introduced in season one, Red X is refreshingly simple, and as mysterious as Slade himself. The episode itself is built upon the interaction between X and his 'creator' Robin. Their chemistry is perfect; though it is with everyone Red X interacts with. His motivations and purpose are stated early on: Fun. And Robin's is to stop him from having it. This simple premise is fleshed out with great dialogue and satisfying character choices. The perfect anti-hero in the making, Red X states that even though he doesn't like to play the hero, doesn't mean he doesn't know how. And as Robins resurfacing obsession with his own mistakes brings forth even more disaster than before he began battling X, one is left wondering if Robin will ever learn to master his drive to disappoint himself. A small, fun episode that needs little to do the most. Excellent.
