This show features a great "flashback" that gives the backstory for Longley's endless quest for justice. It is 1866; the Civil War is over.
Captain Bill Longley, in his Confederate Officer's uniform, is looking at his ruined Southern plantation. The Texan stands beside the grave of his late wife, Martha Dean Longley. Sarah (actress Ruby Goodwin), one of his sharecroppers, explains what happened to Longley's wife, referring to her as "Poor Child". Sarah then tells Longley how, after Martha's passing, his Southern mansion was destroyed by fire. The Texan writes his own epitaph on a board, and plants it into the ground next to his wife's tombstone. As Sarah repeats the words, "Poor Child", the flashback fades away.
