A string of mistakes with the local village shop prompts Ida to call in and find out what's gone wrong, in there she overhears a little gossip, the house on the top of the hill has been bought by Elton John. Robert breaks the news that it has in fact been bought by Edwin John, who plans to open a hostel for single mothers. Shopkeeper Mrs Cross plans to stage a huge protest, but her own daughter Brenda's woes may convince her to change her mind.
Any Doctor Who fans will recognise Brenda, played by Jenny Tomasin, who gave a memorable performance as Tasambeker in episode Revelation of the Daleks immediately after this episode.
A somewhat different episode, with a different agenda, I don't think we've had an episode on this show before that came with a message, this one certainly did, a social and moral message. Times were different thirty years ago, the tone of the episode and Angie's floral blouse confirm. 7/10
