Thomas and Sarah A Unappreciated Classic
rollinsronald-202-6518769 November 2023
I grew up in the 70's and my sisters were into the PBS Masterpiece Theatre. Upstairs Downstairs was a favorite. I rediscovered these shows recently and watched all of them. When I finally viewed Thomas and Sarah it was a great moving experience. Pauline Collins and John Alderton were the best actors that I have ever seen. From England to Hollywood they rate up with the greatest of all time. I was a little sad and disappointed with the last episode. I feel there could have been a happy ending for Thomas and Sarah in some way. My love, respect and appreciation for both of you. A great show and beautiful performances.

Sarah falls in love with another man...
arrival15 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
April, 1912 Thomas and Sarah get a job as 'helpers' in a large and lonely Manor House occupied by a rather 'odd', eccentric, and lonely gentleman.

On arrival, the two are told that they are no longer required. The ever resourceful Sarah does not miss a single opportunity by getting her feet well and truly under the table - as she did years before when applying for position at the Bellamy's.

Both Thomas and Sarah become 'attached' to the man and help him out of his problems, and retrieve him from near death by keeping vigil at his bedside. In turn, Sarah falls in love with him, and as Thomas after all these years still refuses to marry her, ceases the opportunity for matrimony.

Thomas, feeling somewhat in the way, agrees to stand aside (if not to say also using a little emotional blackmail for good measure!) and to 'surrender' his claim upon Sarah and leaves. Before he has chance to, there is a dreadful fire, which at the time, left the series quite open to all sorts of unanswered questions when Sarah is pictured at a funeral - but whose?

It is believes that a second series was planned - but it never happened...

As suggested in my first Review of this classic series; if watched sandwiched between seasons two and three of 'Upstairs, Downstairs', this ties in beautifully, since this series ends as the third season of UD begins - in April 1912.
