The plot is similar to The Flintstones episode "The Mailman Cometh from Season 2.

Author Chris Mann state's in his 1998 book about the series that this episode was the first episode, since the series began, in which Threes Company began to fall in the ratings do to competition on other networks. This episode fell to number 56 in the weekly ratings and lost its time slot up against NBC's new show The A Team. In the subsequent weeks it would become apparent that Threes Company would not recover from this. ABC felt the series was running stale and thus series producers would decide to end the series at season's end and spin off John Ritter on to a new show called Threes A Crowd. This would follow the lead of the British series Man About the House from which Threes Company was adapted from.
