Explosive Episode

Warning: Spoilers
Doug and Tony are transported to 1287 and are captured by the Mongol Batu that tortures Tony trying to discover the breach in the walls of Marco Polo's fort. However, Doug manages to escape bringing Tony and is helped by Marco Polo and his men. Tony is nursed by Sarita, the daughter of Kubla Kahn, and they fall in love for each other. However Batu wants to get married with Sarita to unite Mongolia and conquer Asia and Europe. Doug and Tony help Marco Polo to produce bombs and protect the fort.

In "The Attack of the Barbarians", Tony fall in love for a princess of the Thirteenth Century and the Time Tunnel personnel interferes in history and helps the time travelers to produce bombs to blow up the Mongolians. There is a great use of stock footages and the participation of John Saxon in the role of Marco Polo. My vote is seven.

Meeting Marco Polo
elo-equipamentos10 August 2017
In this episode ours friends meet Marco Polo like always in each episode Irwin Allen provides a famous person to share the story to us, not always accurate of course but works, the interesting of this episode was the first time Tony falling in love with princess Sarit who actually live in thirteenth century and he is contemplating the crazy idea to stays there, apart from that l found one of most weak episode of the entire series, Arthur Batanides has a very convincing act as Batu.

Goofs: In the beginning of the episode when Tony and Doug are fighting against Mongolians you can see clearly the track of the truck's tyres in the grass...

Great Adventure
StuOz6 November 2016
The time travellers land in the 13th century...the time of Marco Polo. Also, Tony falls in love.

The previous two episodes (Chase Through Time, The Death Merchant) were two of my five very favourites of the whole series...so Attack Of The Barbarians had to follow all that, it does so with class, not as good as the last two shows, but still good fun.

Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea only had one Admiral Nelson (Richard Basehart) romance in the whole series (Time Bomb) and the time travellers only had one romance in the 30 adventures: Attack Of The Barbarians.

John Saxon is outstanding as Marco Polo, the location filming is great, the conversations in the Tunnel command centre are almost as much fun as the main setting conversations and the stock movie music playing over the whole thing brings it all to life.

What can say: this is great!

Great use of footage from "Taras Bulba"

Warning: Spoilers
One of the things I loved about this show was their being able to utilize stock footage from epic movies.

A cast of thousands of mounted horses from the 1962 motion picture "Taras Bulba" has the Ukrainian cossacks now as the Mongolian riders raiding Marco Polo's fort, originally a Polish city Yule Brenner led an invasion on.

And near the end, Doug and Tony are seen among MP's soldiers wearing the same blue armor as the Polish army emerging what now serves as MP's fortress.

CGI effects are no match for live action IMHO and they did a beautiful job of blending those epic movie shots into this TV show.

But awesome as these inserts are, "Taras Bulba", which was filmed in Argentina, is a definite must see in it's full wide screen glory. Check it out for a thrilling ride!
