- The isolated and rich Montana Max one day opens his mansions' window, shouting out the word 'Acme.' Hampton goes on a quest to then find out what this strange utterance could mean. His journey takes him on a quest through Max's poor past, and into his huge (but scandalous) run for Class President.—Michael Howe
- As the show opens, we see Montana Max in his mansion, angrily tearing up his room, and throwing his toys around. Suddenly, he chances upon a mirror, and seeing himself, mutters one word: "Acme."
This is followed by him throwing open his nearby window, and bellowing "Acme!" out into the night sky.
A newsreel is then shown, that chronicles Max's life. How from poor beginnings, Max's parents won the lottery, and his life changed, but he did as well. After having his parents arrested for making him eat broccoli, Max took charge of the family empire, and made a major move in running for Acme Looniversity Class President, which ended in a scandal that caused Max to be expelled.
The newsreel (for the Looniversity's newspaper), perplexes its reporters that it needs a hook. Hampton J Pig, Shirley the Loon, and Bookworm are perplexed by Max's 'last word,' of "Acme."
Hampton is put on the case, and goes on to interview people who knew Monty during his campaign.
First he visits Buster Bunny, who knew Max from long ago. Max was once a poor kid, who was kind and genial to Buster. However, once Max's family won the lottery, things changed.
From there, Hampton visits Plucky Duck, who Max hired as his campaign manager for the Looniversity's Class President election. Plucky was witness as Max purchased the Looniversity's TV studio, and made its ads lean more towards his view on things, slandering Buster in the process. Plucky also relates during an interview with Buster, how Max claimed to have found stolen test answers that Buster used, and Buster was then expelled.
From there, Hampton goes to Elmyra, who was Max's girlfriend at the time, but she provides few answers, and no clue as to what "Acme" means.
After this, Buster and Babs meet with Hampton, and explain how after Buster was expelled, Plucky confided in them about Max's planting of the test answers, framing Buster. With Max's victory looking assured, the three then tricked him into admitting he framed Buster, which resulted in his eventual loss for Student Body President, and expulsion from the Looniversity.
After this, the three walk down a street near Max's residence, still not sure what Max meant. Buster ponders that Max was a kid who could have had anything. Maybe "Acme" was something he couldn't obtain.
Suddenly, Max's voice calls down to them from his room. It is then he admits that he didn't say "Acme," he said "Acne." He had cried out because he was distraught at having a bad case of "Acne."
Hampton then faints, as what he thought was an important thing, turned out to be nothing.
