Elmyra's house of horror

Get a lot of enjoyment mostly out of the segment-structured 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episodes, of which there are many. More so than episodes with just one story. As is the case with films and episodes made up of segments, most episodes have ones that do work very well but also others that underwhelm and quite a lot of it is dependent on which character it's centered around. There are exceptions though where all the segments are equally good.

Although not as much as "Psychic Fun-Omenon", "The Wide World of Elmyra" is one of those episodes where all the segments are equal to each other. Unlike that episode though, there is a marginal personal preference of the segments which is why it hasn't quite been rated the same. Also, that episode centered around characters that do more for me than Elmyra does. Do like Elmyra in this show (not so much 'Pinky, Elmyra and the Brain though), but not as much as Plucky. "The Wide World of Elmyra" showcases her very well and is one of her better episodes overall.

Despite the ever great presence of Buster and Babs, the wraparound story didn't wow me over. While well written and clever, and Babs especially is a delight, they are introduction and not much else. The wildlife host setting is not particularly relevant either.

The segments though, "Turtle Hurdle", "Drooley Davey" and "Go Fetch", are equally a delight and much cleverer and more mature than the cutesy names sound and make them out to be on paper. Although Elmyra is a little underused in "Turtle Hurdle", that managed to be my marginal personal favourite of the three because of many funny and cute (but not too much so) moments, a relatable character in Tyrone and another fun appearance despite being in teasing mode from the iconic character of Michigan J Frog of 'One Froggy Evening' fame.

Meanwhile, "Drooley Davey" had the hard task of making a baby funny and not obnoxious or too cutesy and is successful in doing that. There is great chemistry between Elmyra and the baby too and the usual 'Tiny Toon Adventures' wackiness, without descending into sickly sweet territory. There is something immensely satisfying about "Go Fetch", on paper it sounds very slight and too sweet but actually it goes in a direction that is not predictable and is surprisingly wild. Did find myself rooting for Barky Marky.

Had no issues with the vibrant animation or the characterful use of music. Can't get enough of that theme song. Have seen more sharpness and wit in other 'Tiny Toon Adventures' episodes, but they are still there in all the segments. The storytelling is always engaging and the episode is a good showcase for Elmyra. Can't fault the voice acting, which was always great on the show and is here.

Summarising, great. 9/10
