Monica (Roma Downey) and Tess (Della Reese) are assigned to help two families broken apart by a car accident that claimed the lives of a father and son. A year ago, Joseph Greene caused a fatal car crash that left Susan a single parent to her young son. Susan is unable to cope with her husband's death and despite Tess's advice, has been abusing alcohol until she loses her job. As Joe runs away from his pain, Susan continues to send threatening letters to him, which are discovered by his family when he is out of town. After her surviving son is injured during one of her drunken episodes, Susan snaps and attempts to abduct Joe's son. Meanwhile, the angels' appearance prompts Joe's sister-in-law to reach out to inmates on death row. She and her daughter help a young woman, Darlene, learn to create something positive from her dark past. In the end, Susan comes to terms with her grief and starts to forgive herself and Darlene is able to forgive her mother before Andrew (John Dye) takes her away.
