First let me say I absolutely love Don Francks mainly after his years on La Femme Nikita. It's just a little surprising that he was cast in this part as a Native American in 2001. In 1981 - very common. 2001 - already dubious. I always love getting to see him do something besides play Walter and he was good in this part. His acting was believable. You could feel his character's pain over losing his grandson. But unfortunately, it just ended up being very awkward because he is white, not Native American. Now I believe he and his wife were adopted into a Cree tribe in real life, so I guess made it more acceptable to the producers. I just cannot believe he was the only actor qualified for this role. They couldn't have written one line explaining he was adopted as a child and raised Apache?

The ending made it more awkward when it was implied he is magically slow aging and well over a hundred years old. Was this a Highlander type reference? No one else is this series is magic. You hear so many people get upset with "magical Negro/Asian" tropes. This seems to play right into that. Also, while I'm complaining, the plastic children's set of arrows that he used were very distracting. All of it together was distracting in general and kept pulling me out of the action.

Other than that, I liked this episode. The plot was pretty straightforward with a good amount of action to keep things moving. Peter Mensah dominated his scenes and elevated those playing opposite him. Even Jess was less annoying than usual, even though she had a bit larger part than usual too. But I haven't seen an episode in a while so maybe she is ok in small doses. Have to say I was happy with the ending, as happy as you can be considering the grandson was still dead. I assumed since Francks' character found out about Cole, he would have to die at the end to conveniently keep the secret. Glad he went on his way at the end, having no problem believing in aliens.
