Abraham Lincoln is the last member of the procession of the men who died in the war, and he tells Lavinia Godwin that he is the last casualty of the Civil War. In actuality, Lincoln died on April 15, 1865, when there were still a number of Confederate armies in the field. Fighting continued into May, 1865, with men dying on both sides.
Two characters refer to "the Civil War," a Northern term that Southern contemporaries would not have used. Even at the time when this show was first aired, many Southerners still considered the name Civil War to be offensive and preferred to say The War Between the States or The War of Northern Aggression. It was only after social upheaval and cultural reevaluations in the late 1960s that the term Civil War began to be generally accepted in the South.
The Southern sergeant plays the song "Black Is the Color (Of My True Love's Hair)", a Scottish-American song that has not been proven to predate 1915.
The crutch used by the Confederate soldier is incorrect. The period crutch had only a single post with a slightly curved top piece under the shoulder.
A female character wears full 1960s makeup and earrings.
The long procession passing Lavinia Godwin's house is supposed to consist of the soldiers who perished in the war and who were proceeding to the hereafter. However, with the exception of the blind Union officer and Abraham Lincoln, all of the men are clearly Confederates.
In the opening scene, two characters sing a song together. In the next scene, the woman acts as if she does not know the song.
