Prison Breakout and hostage takers.

Warning: Spoilers
US Marshall – 1960 – The Diner – Two rather nasty types, Harold J. Stone and a young Harry Dean Stanton, have pulled a prison breakout. They steal a car, break into a gun shop and then hit the road for Arizona. They are looking for a man who owes Stone some cash from an old hold-up.

After a day on the road they stop at a small roadside diner. Working there is ex-con, Eddie Firestone. Firestone happens to know the address of the man Stone is looking for. Firestone, who is on parole, wants nothing to do with Stone. He is trying to do the straight and narrow bit since he got out of prison. He does however give Stone the info he wants.

Just then, US Marshall John Bromfield and his deputy walk in for a coffee. Stone and Stanton panic and start blasting away wounding the deputy. The two gunmen then flee the scene in their stolen auto. Bromfield chases them outside the diner and fires several rounds as they speed away. Bromfield manages to hit the gunman's car causing the auto to crash.

Stone and Stanton exit the car and grab some shotguns out of the back seat. They start firing at Bromfield wounding him in the shoulder. The pair then hotfoot it into the brush. Bromfiels returns to his fallen deputy and calls in an ambulance and some more deputies.

While getting stitched up, Marshall Bromfield questions Firestone about the gunmen. Firestone spills with all he knows about the pair, including who they are looking for. Bromfield grabs one of the just arrived reinforcements, and heads for the address Firestone gave.

Stone and Stanton have stolen another car and are already at the address. The man they are looking for is not at home, but his wife, Jean Howell, is. They plan on waiting there for her husband to get home from work. Of course this idea does not last long as Bromfield and his man, Bob Brubaker, arrive. Another blazing gun battle is soon the order of the day. Stanton is quickly dispatched with Stone soon following after a failed attempt to use Howell as a human shield.

A quick and violent half hour bit of entertainment. (b/w)
