Am Unseen Face And An Almost-Unrecognizable One
ccthemovieman-123 April 2012
The headline for this episode and a character we only "see" for two short scenes is "The Partner," a man behind the scenes as powerful, if not more, than Al Capone himself. We only get a glimpse or two of part of his face. Whether such a person ever existed, I don't know.

He really isn't the story here. The main subject is Elliot Ness getting other guys and showing great guts and compassion toward his fellow Untouchable "Lee Hobson" (Paul Picerni) Hobson thinks his boss is hogging glory that belongs to him for shooting gangster "Wallace Laughton" but he finds out the truth later on, that Ness was trying to spare his life and, if need be, sacrifice his own.

This was another excellent episode with a nice touch of unconditional loyalty and love. In addition, we see a young Dyan Cannon who did not look like we've all come to know her to look (see thumb-sized picture here on the title page.) There were no long blonde curls but dark hair and a face that okay but not as sensational as it looked by the next decade. In Dyan's case, age did her well.

Man Who Shot Liberty Valance scheme on reverse
searchanddestroy-126 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, this is an interesting but rather a bit unbelievable plot that we deal with here. I won't remeat the scheme but it remains excellent though. It brings us ingredients which we are not used to. Instead of John Wayne killing a notorious outlaw and letting know Jimmy Stewart did, here Bob Stack takes the blame of killing a man whom his partner picerni actually did !!! To protect him...

There's a HUGE plot hole here.....
planktonrules6 March 2016
Charles McGraw, Bert Convy, Dyan Cannon and a voice without a face cannon's hair all wrong unusual gun jam Lee (Paul Picerni) silent partner calls and threatens Ness --Ness takes credit for killing lawyer--why didn't he tell Lee? --this didn't make sense --instead puts him on leave

In this episode, there's an unseen villain who pulls strings and runs a criminal empire. Eventually, this man in the shadows comes out, so to speak, when one of his most trusted aids is killed in a gun battle with the Untouchables. He phones Ness to say he's going to kill him...and Ness doesn't correct him by letting him know he didn't shoot the guy...Lee (Paul Picerni) did. Now here is where it doesn't make any sense. After taking credit for the killing with the press, Ness never tells Lee or the other members of his force why he lied about killing the man. They think Ness is just a giant butt-face...but he's trying to protect Lee from retribution. Why...why not just explain stuff to his trusted men?! To find out how all this works out and whether or not they kill Lee, Ness or capture the unseen man, see the show. Overall, an enjoyable episode and decent change of pace...with a big plot hole.

"The Partner"
bkoganbing30 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
If you recall in those old movie serials there was always a mastermind who was behind a curtain or wearing a mask, but nobody knew who he was until the final chapter. This episode of The Untouchables took us back to those days and the silliness therein.

If you want to believe this there was a mysterious guy in Chicago known only as 'The Partner' who had his fingers into everything. Johnny Torrio, Al Capone these guys were the partners and visible fronts for him. A guy with a lot of juice who can stay anonymous.

Anyway The Partner is thinking that Charles McGraw might make a good new Capone, but a lot goes wrong including the killing of comedian Bert Convy who was offering to rat out McGraw because of McGraw moving in on his girlfriend, singer Dyan Cannon. That brings the Untouchables in.

Later on rather stupidly McGraw and 'The Partner' use a lawyer Allyn Joslyn as a hit-man and The Untouchables, specifically Paul Picerni kill him. That gets 'The Partner' riled and he threatens to kill Robert Stack over the phone which makes him take credit for the Joslyn killing.

After that the hoods grab Picerni to help set up Eliot Ness for a hit.

Though it gave Paul Picerni a bit more to do than usual, this episode was one of the poorer ones from the series.
