A good episode marred by wasted potential

Warning: Spoilers
So this episode has an okay plot. Some guy tells Kaitlin that there's a secret weapons plant so instead of waiting until Ryan and JB are done doing stuff to help her she runs off, and the whole thing was a trap by Grimlord to kidnap her, and user her as bait to destroy the Troopers.

There's some good fights between the male Troopers and Grimlord's monsters, and we get to see Kaitlin in the Battle Grid by herself.

My only problems are that the monster Ryan fights later shows up in another episode which makes me think they could have used Ryan's fight for that episode, and the monster JB fights was from the same story arc as the Red Python in Spielban which made me wish that VR Troopers used it as a monster form for Red Python

That and we don't actually see Kaitlin getting defeated in the Battle Grid, and this is the only time Kaitlin goes to the Battle Grid by herself so we don't see her solo return to reality clip.

On the plus side I noticed this episode is popular with the damsel in distress/bound and gagged fandom which I'm honestly glad because it means some people like it, and it reminds me of wanting to see a similar thing happen to the Battle Grid fight.

So yeah a lot of great fights but I still wish they had happened in other episodes.

The Damsel's Front Page

VR Troopers did not catch on like Power Rangers did way back when. There were plenty of reasons as to why, how, and why VR Troopers did not succeed but for me, one of the main things that really made this series awkward (other than the cheesy acting, the thin and cliched plots, and the fact that it didn't age well) is the fact that they used two completely different Sentai series from Japan and tried to make it work.

It really didn't. Obviously. It truly divided the "team". 95% of the episodes felt like that and Kaitlin's Front Page didn't break away from that idea. But conveniently enough, they managed to give a 'reason' as to why Kaitlin's Trooper counterpart was not in the fight against the snake monster: she's was a little tied up and worried about a bomb.

Truly a damsel in distress episode. Kaitlin spends 3/4 of the episode tied to a barrel with a bomb, unable to do anything but squirm against the ropes and wait for her friends to rescue her. As obvious as the loose the rope work was, Sarah sells the scenes, delivering a good show of distress while she recites her cliched lines. Should have gagged her, honestly; would have been more interesting to recite said cheesy lines while having to pretend that she has a cloth speech impediment!
