This episode boasts a well-written script that manages to tie the three plots together rather nicely. Kathleen Freeman plays the crusty Mother Poole, and although she is always a reliable and welcome presence, she was much funnier the following year as Howard's mother on IT'S A LIVING.
The highlight is the scene where David encourages Mrs. Poole to unleash her "unvented anger". Edie McClurg is a delight as we see her drop the perennially cheery persona and let loose - she looks totally deranged! 8/10.
