Good start to the much loved series.

DI Chappel and his vice team are investigating David Hinkley, a pimp, and violent criminal, but he's a tough but to crack.

We are left in no doubts as to the format of the show, and the tone of the series, it's wonderfully bleak and seedy, exactly what you'd expect from a titled The Vice.

It's a typical looking late 90's show, some terrific acting, Ken Stott leads by example, and is excellent, it's like a roll call of stars. Struan Rodger plays the part of the villain very well. Shows of this period were not shy when it came to violence.

It's a gritty start, an interesting case, it introduces the main players very well.

8/10.
