In the pilot episode, it was explained that Johnny fell from grace as a DJ, after he used the word "booger" on-air. (Andy gave his blessing for Johnny to use the word, when he changed WKRP's format.) In this episode, Johnny returns to WKRP after being fired for using another word ("jive-ass") on-air. (Hesseman said "jive-ass" during the taping, but it was edited out for broadcast.)
First time the jingle for Red Wigglers worms is heard.
The record Doug Winner overplays on WKRP ("Nowhere Band") was recorded specifically for the episode. The song "Nowhere Band," the band The Soundtastics and the label Onslaught Records are all fictitious.
In the final scene, Bailey can be seen wearing a T-shirt with the face of Thomas Schippers who is an American opera conductor.
Venus mentions that Moss Steiger tried to kill himself by lighting a Hibachi in a closet. Boston lead singer Bradley Delp committed suicide in the same manner in 2007.
