- Andy tells Les that Arthur hired someone else to do the sports reporting on the radio - the former manager of the Red's baseball team, Sparky Anderson, who is a hero to Arthur. When Sparky is a disaster on the radio, Arthur has to fire him.—Bernie
- Les is angered to learn from Andy that Mr. Carlson has hired Sparky Anderson to host the sports interview show that Les devised as the latest news showcase for himself. Sparky is able to do it as although he is now managing the Tigers after being fired from the Reds, it is the baseball off season. Beyond the general love Cincinnati still has for Sparky - which is evident by the gushing the WKRP staff members, excluding Les, do upon Sparky's arrival at the station - leading to the show being a surefire ratings success for the station, Mr. Carlson plans for the show to go into national syndication. What may end up making the show not a success are Les, who, despite his words to the contrary to help Sparky in any way he can, may want to see the show fail if he isn't the host, and Sparky himself, who has no experience doing this type of work. If the show does fail, Mr. Carlson has to be the one to deal with it, not heaping praise on a local legend like Sparky which may not be the easiest thing for him.—Huggo
