Originally, the episode was supposed to air on April 7, 1982. This and To Err Is Human (1982) were both pulled from the spring schedule due to low ratings. After the summertime re-runs of WKRP became Top 10 hits, it finally aired on September 20, 1982. This is the LAST first-run WKRP to have ever aired.
The title is from the signature song for the musical Man of LaMancha sung by Richard Kiley and became a popular hit for many singers in the 1960s and 1970s. The original stage production opened at the ANTA Washington Square theater in New York City on 22 November 1965, moving to Broadway after a short run, and eventually having a total of 2329 performances. The cast featured Richard Kiley in the role of Don Quixote who won the 1966 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. "Man of La Mancha" won the 1966 Tony Awards for the Best Musical and Best Score.
