As a lot of this episode had a relationship to a previous Wagon Train story, a rather lengthy flashback occurred with the previous story. Rafael Campos in the Swift Cloud Story went west with Ward Bond and the Wagon Train to see if the doctors could cure the limp he had. They did more than that, Campos returns to his stamping grounds as Swift Cloud, MD.
But it isn't easy for him. He reunites with Ward Bond, Frank McGrath, and Terry Wilson after a raid where they sustained a lot of casualties. All most of them see is he's an Indian.
But it's no better with the Chiracauhua Apaches where his father Henry Brandon is dying and the tribal medicine man is afraid of losing his job. In fact medicine man Francis McDonald wants to see his Philip Pine become the new chief.
Campos is probably destined for a lonely life, but in the end he wins a few friends and the respect of a few more.
The character of Swift Cloud was one of a small group that was ever brought back for a return. Rafael Campos gives a winning performance as the Indian lad between two worlds.
