An early draft of the script for this episode featured an additional twist: Ernesto is murdered not by the vigilantes, but by a pair of car thieves; both were hired as hitmen by a wealthy racist, who also happens to be the father of Ernesto's girlfriend. It turns out her rich dad framed Ernesto for rape, in order to keep them apart; the duo he sent were supposed to kill only Ernesto, without touching his daughter...but guess who ends up dead along with their intended target.
Both car thieves/hitmen die in a high-speed chase; one of them lives just long enough to mention the girlfriend's dad. Walker and Trivette barge into her father's country club. Both Rangers arrest the father (after beating up the security guards and, in the process, demolishing most of the dining hall), but are forced to release him...since they did all of this without a proper warrant. However, Walker mentions that the millionaire's daughter has been slain by the same people he hired to gun down Ernesto. Seeking atonement for his misdeeds, her dad then offers himself as bait in the Rangers' trap for the vigilantes.
All of this was dropped in rewrites, because it would have overly complicated the plot-line (by WTR standards), and because it would have rendered the episode too long for its time-slot.
