John-Boy's decision to leave Walton's Mountain and try his luck in New York City as a writer left two major loose ends that he did not tie up. The first was Boatwright University. Did he graduate? If he did, then why was there no episode about his graduation? Did he drop out? We never learn if he did either one. After Season 5, Boatwright University is never mentioned again. The second was his newspaper, The Blue Ridge Chronicle. Did he sell it? Did he turn it over to Ben? Did he shut it down? We the audience never find out what he did about it. Like Boatwright University, it is never mentioned again. John-Boy must have been in such a hurry to get to New York that he did not take the time to close this chapter in his life, no pun intended,

Good Ending Episode, Though Contrived

Warning: Spoilers
I did enjoy all the flashbacks and good acting from 5 seasons of the Waltons almost like it was the finale, but it lacked credence to assume a prestigious publishing company head would stop everything to read John Boy's manuscript.

John Boy decides to go to New York City to find out why he hasn't heard anything in 6 weeks about his manuscript, believing it possibly got lost. The receptionist in the office is the only one who seems genuine about how it works. John Boy is pretty cheeky and demands to see Miss Becker only to find his manuscript sits in the slush pile being unsolicited. She's very gracious and allows him to describe through flashback how writing was in his blood and all the obstacles, advice and guidance that helped him finish his novel after 5 years. How presumptuous to think she will read his novel over the weekend and give him an answer. She does, however.

He looks up Daisy and how he finds her in that big city is baffling as well as a mystery writer that Elizabeth has been obsessed with. He finds her mother and gets to tell more of his past. I wish they flashed back to Martha Corinne who offered her history of the Walton family giving his novel a prelude. Quite a productive trip to New York.

This is Thomas's swan song as he was moving on and saying good bye to John Boy. His decision not to renew his contract does leave a void in the series. MaryEllen's news indicates that the series will continue with the other members. A good season finale if a bit improbable.

Warning: Spoilers
The Walton's just want the same after Mr. Thomas left. Nice send- off episode. I don't think it's very realistic, but if anybody could get in with no appointment, it would be John-Boy!
