A Different Ending Maybe

Warning: Spoilers
John Boy takes a job reading the classics to a disgruntled blind girl whose mother has employed him and who has locked herself away from life. I won't go into detail but she realizes how rude and angry she is towards him when she rejects a present MaryEllen has given her. It's all rather contrived when she agrees to visit John at his home and goes on a picnic with the friendly Waltons. She's almost become part of the family that afternoon, a complete change in personality, until she is left alone with Elizabeth when John must retrieve her purse. Elizabeth decides to walk on the bridge railing, after being told not to, then proceeds to fall off amongst the reeds and mud.

Having Elizabeth unconscious was far fetched as trivia section says and instead she should have maybe hurt her leg. The blind girl realizes she's not there and attempts to find Elizabeth when her shouts aren't answered. It would have been more rewarding for the viewer and the blind girl to rescue Elizabeth and help her out of the creek. Instead she gets hysterical with John Boy for not being responsible enough to help a child. All is well when she realizes she's taken a big step forward just coming to Waltons Mountain. Elizabeth should have been sorely reprimanded for disobeying and putting both of them in danger.
