I give this episode 10 stars for highlighting an important life lesson that my father, a war veteran like Mr. Walton, taught me: You have to move on and not remain stuck in the past.

I enjoyed this episode and its poignant story that reflects a real-life struggle I've heard about from veterans when it comes to returning to civilian life after service; sometimes the memories are better than daily life.

But it's not a story that's only for veterans; I think many people could appreciate the wise words from Mr. Walton about retiring old memories, that every day's a new thing, and to grab ahold of now!

This episode aired on November 16 1972 with this opening; usually each family has its own special folklore, stories and anecdotes polished smooth with the telling. The setting for most of our legends was Waltons Mountain. However, one favorite part of our folklore took place far from the mountain when my father had served overseas in what was then called The Great War. To us children, my father's stories of the places he had seen and the men he'd known were endlessly fascinating. Then, one day, legend came to visit us. James Antonio stars in this episode as Tip Harrison John's old army friend. The show opens with the beautiful shots of Waltons Mountain as John Boy is up there walking around. Later in the day, Mary Ellen comes screaming into the house as a fox had gotten into the chicken coop and kill some chickens. While the crew is getting ready to eat lunch, John Boy comes running into the kitchen while Grandpa is giving the blessing for the food. John Boy shows his daddy that someone had sent him a telegram. The telegram came from Tip Harrison who was on his way to Walton's Mountain to visit John. However, as John Boy is unloading his luggage he notices that the name on the tags says Harold Harrison instead of Tip Harrison. Later that night John and Tip are drinking champagne there singing songs from there war days. Later that night after everyone went to bed, Tip Harrison is lying in John Boy's bed drinking liquor and smoking a cigarette and you could tell something was wrong. The next day John and John Boy takes a load of lumber in to town and Jason takes over for John Boy who was tending to the trash fire. Jason leaves and makes sure the fires out. However, when John gets home the grass is on fire and the question is how did the fire restart? I like this episode just because of all the shows of Waltons Mountain that was film and for that reason, I give this episode 10 weasel stars.
