This episode aired on January 18 1973 with this opening. Waltons Mountain by day was friendly but, by night, ghosts seemed to hide in every shadow and a feeling of something old and mysterious flowed downward on the cold night wind; and, if you were walking homeward past a house that was known to be haunted, you couldn't help but be a little apprehensive. The show opens with it usual opening of the beautiful sites from Waltons Mountain where you can see for miles and miles. Down at the bottom its dark and John Boy is on his way home when he passes the old Pendleton place. Ask John Boy goes by he sees a candle light burning as it passes from room to room and when he whistled the candle went out. When John Boy gets home, the family is sitting around the table eating fried chicken when John Boy walks in the door. His John ask John Boy where he's been and John Boy tells John about the Pendleton house, so John and John Boy go over to the house after they eat there supper. When they get to the Pendleton house, they find a pretty young lady playing the organ. When John tries to introduce himself, the young woman runs out the door in fear. The young woman turns out to be Jenny Pendleton daughter and she's waiting for her parents to come to Waltons Mountain. Therefore, John takes Jenny home with him so she doesn't have to be alone in that old house by herself. Early the next morning while John and Olivia her spending some little time together they ear reckless barking out side and its Sheriff Bridges who comes knocking at the door. The Sheriff tells John that Dave Pendleton called from Richmond and it seems that Dave got himself married again and his daughter didn't like it, so she took off. John tells the sheriff that Jenny is with them and upstairs sleeping with the children. Later in the day Jenny, ask Olivia if she ever taken in borders because jenny wanted to be a border and she were willing to pay. Olivia told Jenny she could stay as long as she wanted and there would be no discussion about the exchanging of money. Later that night Jenny's father comes knocking on the Waltons door. The next day John Boy takes Jenny up on Walton Mountain where they end up spending the day while growing closer and falling in love. John Boy spending they day walking, hugging and kissing as John Boy and Jenny each realize that there facing there first love. Later that night Dave Pendleton and his new wife go for cigarettes while Jenny and John Boy spend the evening walking and getting to know each other as there love for each other grows. However, during the night tragic strikes in the worst kind of way and the question now is can anyone survive this tragic and if so, how will they recover? This was my all time favorite episode because I know what the feeling is when dealing with a tragic like this. I also knew how Jenny felt about becoming a member of a family that had so much love to give. I went through the same thing when I was in my twenties. For the first time I saw two things that I never saw on the Waltons up until this point. The first was snow on Waltons Mountain. Usually the shots are of the spring or summertime but when this episode was filmed, it had to be in the early part of spring because you still could see patches of snow. The second thing is first the first time you could actually see buildings from the area that the filming was done. I give the episode 10 weasel stars because this episode hit me hard and it's was a remind to me of how farcical life can be. I
