Santos is picking up momentum on Vinick after a very successful marine reserve training session, with a range of polls suggesting any lead Vinick currently has will soon be wiped out if they don't find an equally populist strategy.

To put Santos on the back foot, Vinick decides to throw his weight on homeland security & immigration controls on the Mexican border - an issue Latino Santos has been reluctant to pursue. Vinick's thinking is that it will attract independents and wavering Democrats from both wings of the party.

However, his efforts to broaden his appeal across wider political lines are hamstrung by a request from George Rohr, leader of a pro-life Christian group, won't throw his considerable support unless Vinick, a pro-choice advocate, guarantees pro-life judges.

The new strategy appears to be working, with the polls favouring Vinick once again. This is boosted by Vinick asking his running mate, Ray Sullivan to have a sit-down with Rohr, living him in no doubt where he's support should lie,

This is a great episode, as it shifts some of the writing back towards Vinick and the Republicans in a mostly favourable way. It also means the likes of Josh, Lou and Santos are infighting as they try to think of a way out of the homeland security issue that is very popular with right-wing Democrats and Republicans.

Another aspect with this episode is that it is entirely focused on the campaign rather than any random stories back at the White House. So most of the regulars are absent here, which I think is a good thing.
