The telecast was live from New York and sponsored by Remington electric shavers, with promotional consideration for American Airlines for guest transportation.
Mystery Guest #2 Jean Simmons was in New York for the Thursday, November 3, 1955 opening of her movie, ''Guys and Dolls.'' When moderator John Daly referred to her as ''Mrs. Granger'' it was because she was married to actor Stewart Granger at the time.
With this telecast began the practice of supering the Mystery Guest's name instead of using a nameplate on the desk front. The brackets that once held the nameplates, however, remained attached to the desk.
Contestant Edward Cairns, whose secret occupation was firemen's hatmaker, presented moderator John Daly with a miniature fireman's hat, which John then modeled. The helmet badge read: ''What's My Line?'' and ''Chief Daly.''
At the end of the program, panelist Dorothy Kilgallen said, ''Can I say good night to my mother and dad in Chicago? Good night, Mother and Dad!'' It was out of character for Dorothy to mention family members during the closing good nights, though other panelists frequently did.
