After retiring from film, Rita La Roy, the first contestant, ran the 'Rita La Roy Modeling School and Agency' in the early 1940s. La Roy later wrote and produced her own shows for the local television station in Los Angeles, KTLA. For one of those programs, she won an Emmy in 1948.
Panelists Arlene Francis had co-hosted the 'Miss Universe 1962' broadcast, the 11th Miss Universe pageant, held on July 14, 1962, at the Miami Beach Auditorium in Florida, where Norma Nolan of Argentina was crowned the winner, and Brazilian Maria Olívia Rebouças placed as 4th Runner-Up.
On May 28, 1962, Benny Goodman and his seventeen-piece Orchestra left for a tour of the Soviet Union as part of a cultural exchange program between the two nations after the Cuban Missile Crisis. Goodman would release a live recorded two-LP album titled 'Benny Goodman in Moscow' in December.
