John Daly provided this trivia: 1) By September 3, 1967, the date of this final telecast, there were 56 million TV sets in the U.S.; 2) When the show premiered on February 2, 1950, there were only a tenth of that amount of TV sets in the U.S.; 3) 'Bennett Cerf' first appeared on the program on October 15, 1950; 4) Steve Allen first appeared on the program in March, 1951; and Martin Gabel first appeared on the program at Christmas, 1956.
Announcer Johnny Olson appeared on stage briefly in a goodbye before he returned to his off-stage mike to announce that the show had been co-sponsored by ''new Polident tablets.'' (The alternate sponsor was Prell shampoo.) At the start of the show, he announced, ''Live from New York for the 876th and last time.''
This version of "What's My Line?" held the record for the longest-running game show on American television (17 years, 7 months) for many years. It was surpassed by The Price is Right (1972), which debuted in September 1972 and is still on the air as of 2016.
