Having fun with dinosaurs
Dinosaur themed episodes was not new territory for Scooby Doo, with 'The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show' having "The Dinosaur Deception" also having a dinosaur as the adversary. Do remember not being too crazy about that episode, other than the dinosaur, though it needs a re-watch. Not that that matters though, because dinosaurs are a lot of fun and work so well in animation. Memories of "3D Struction" were on the vague side before rewatching.
"3D Struction" is a nice enough episode of 'What's New Scooby Doo' though a step down from the very good previous episode "There's No Creature Like Snow Creature". It is also a long way from being one of the best episodes of the show or even of Season 1. The show did have worse episodes though and that is including in the first season, and while there is not much exceptional here "3D Struction" is at least entertaining and remember it working better as a mystery than "The Dinosaur Deception".
The animation is still very colourful and atmospheric, especially for the cool and intimidating dinosaur monster and the chase scene. Which is one of the best of the season with colourful visuals and a catchy song, one of the few things about the episode on first watch that wasn't vague.
Gang are on great form and true to character, Shaggy and Scooby are such an endearing double act and their friendship has yet to grow old. Their humour is amusing and did enjoy the Melbourne O'Reilly character in his first appearance. The voice acting is very good nearly all round, though Frank Welker did take some getting used to initially (his Scooby voice has grown on me massively, Welker is one of the best voice actors in the business but having grown up with Don Messick's voice as Scooby hearing somebody else was always going to be strange).
However, the story is too simple generally and is not always involving. Particularly in the middle, and then it rushes towards the end. The reveal is surprising and clever, with the responsible being surprising, though it was a little more complicated than needed and would have worked better if it had longer to explain it. The wrap up did feel too quick.
In summary, fun enough if unexceptional. 7/10.
