A perfect end to a near perfect show

Warning: Spoilers
I think a lot of people are missing the point with this episode.

Yes, it would have been lovely to see Kevin and Winnie together at the end, but how realistic would that have been? Wasn't there a sense all along that the memories adult Kevin was retelling were so raw, so rose-tinted at times, that they were for a love lost rather than being for 'the one'?

I thought this episode, as with 99% of them was excellent, with the final epilogue scenes being a class above most of what passes for entertainment on TV.

'The Wonder Years' taught us so much, it will continue to, and this finale doesn't deserve the flak it gets.

Reality not Fantasy

Yes I wanted Kevin and Winnie to have that fairy-tale ending, the perfect love story, the happy ending but that's not reality.

This was about adult Kevin telling us about growing up as Kevin and most of us get the happy ending eventually but not the happy ending we thought when we were kids.

We meet new people and have new relationships, we make mistakes in life and love and Kevin and Winnie are no different.

If it did end up with the fairy-tale ending it wold have been pure fantasy and likely then if they did they would likely have gotten divorced and had resentment for each other.

Kevin and Winnie even though didn't end up together as adults they are forever soul mates.

I guess not many fan had thought this serie would end like this and hoped that the two main characters would end up together . But that was not the end we got and i think after being dissapointed at first that it was a good and also a much more realistic ending .

One thing really annoyed me about the ending

Sort of disappointing ending. The final narration left me nostalgic, confused, sad and shocked. I mean, I just assumed that Kevin and Winnie would end up together. They make up, then go off to college, write to each other every week, and... nothing? OK, it's a bit difficult to maintain an overseas relationship for 8 years, but the promise! They made a promise that day in the barn that they'd always be together. Yes, life takes you in different directions, but what was all the weekly letter writing about? Why all that if they go and end up with other people? Bah!

Anyway, I sort of got over that, and things are tied up nicely at the end. Karen's baby, Paul becoming a lawyer, Norma the businesswoman, Wayne coming good in the furniture business, but why... why do that to Jack? I mean, I know it's only a program, but you get invested in it, the people become real. It tugs at your emotions. OK, it doesn't show Jack passing away or say how he died, but why the need to do that? He's a good bloke. A strong, patriarch figure, who was so important to Kevin's upbringing, and the family in general. They're a nice family. Norma and Jack, such a loving couple. Their first grandchild arriving, and they don't get to enjoy that together for long (nor Kevin's kid). I mean, come on, why do that? There was no need. I mean, he must've only been late 40's at most.

I guess the episodes did somewhat become weaker in series 6, but when a show ends, you imagine life for everyone afterwards. Kids, marriage, retirement, graduation etc. There was just no need to do what they did to Jack. They need to re-write the final narration, so that Jack and Wayne become partners in the business, or Jack and Norms take early retirement and enjoy life with their extended family.

Come on Marv (Daniel Stern), if you did that, it would make the finale so much better. The current ending kind of tainted the whole series because of what they did to Jack.

Very Poor Ending

What was the point in Kevin and Winnie splitting up, getting back together and then at the end finding out they split again.

It all felt a bit flat really after watching all six seasons and it ends on such a downer.

Loved last episode as a kid!

Warning: Spoilers
Watching it now I can see why some people didn't like the last episodes very much I use to love watching this episode when I was young but I only gave it 3 stars because Winnie was cheating on Kevin. The only scene I enjoyed is the ending of the last episode but the rest is all about Kevin getting screwed with things.
