Mulder and Scully are called in by a local field office when the body of a long dead FBI agent is found by a local police detective in Aubrey, Missouri. The local police also have a strange murder on their hands: a young woman who had the word "sister" carved on her chest. When Morrow's boss, Lt. Brian Tilman, first sees the crime photos he thinks the FBI has information on the most recent murder but the photos are over 50 years old. There is a connection of some sort between the dead and the living however.
