The chin is back. Bruce Campbell returns as Autolycus, the King of Thieves. However his body has been taken over by the spirit of the now deceased Xena who plans to return to the land of the living.
Meanwhile a distraught Gabrielle plans to take Xena's corpse to be buried next to her brother. Gabrielle comes across the Amazon ladies who wish to give Xena a ceremonial funeral by fire.
Only to find that the Amazons have been bickering over their own leadership vacuum. Velasca won a battle in combat and she wants Gabrielle who was previously appointed as a princess to confirm Velasca as leader.
Gabrielle encounters Autolycus and recognises his fighting moves mirrors that of Xena. They join up to revive Xena by getting hold of some Ambrosia.
However Xena's powers to transfer her spirit into different bodies comes useful when Velasca does combat with Gabrielle.
It is clear that this is another story that had to cover for Lucy Lawless's absence as she recovered from her injuries. It was essentially a body swap episode and Campbell went full on with it.
Iolaus pops up in this story but I was surprised that he did not accompany Gabrielle in her journey.
My teenage son watched Xena with me for the first time. He seemed to have enjoyed it. I think it was all that cleavage on display!
