"Coupling" was fortunate to have one of the best first series out of any sitcom I can remember. All of Steven Moffat's six episodes for this first series are great, with three of them being really perfect pieces of comedy. "Coupling" may occasionally be vulgar, but it is completely superior sex-based comedy to basically any other. No, it's not always realistic, and a couple of episodes play a tad too much on traditional situational comedy, but mostly it is just pure wit. Jeff, especially, is a truly great sitcom character, played to perfection by Richard Coyle.
The three episodes I really loved, which had me laughing basically from start to finish were "Sex, Death, and Nudity", "The Girl With Two Breasts", and especially "Inferno", which is just a classic bit of TV writing.
I don't know about others, but I'd rather have a six episode series of this quality than a 22 episode series of half its quality.
Series average based on ratings for all episodes: 9.5/10
