Features footage of Gerry Glenn beating Don Garlits at the NHRA Top Fuel world finals championship race at
Amarillo Dragway in Amarillo, TX on October 24, 1971.
The movie was shot during real races at all of the important SoCal dragstrips of the day: Irwindale Raceway, Lions Dragstrip (aka The Beach), and Orange County International Raceway.
Many popular racers of the time (and their cars) were prominently featured in the film, notably Gerry Glenn, Bill Schultz, Frank Graf, Glenn Menard, Larry Dixon, John Peters, Mike Snively, Norm Wilcox, John Lombardo, Sherman Gunn, Bob Muravez, and Dwight Salisbury.
The front engine dragsters featured in this film were almost completely phased out by the end of 1971, with technological innovations and track closures brought on by too many deadly accidents.
