Solid story

Warning: Spoilers
One more time Robert Altman helps this story shining bright with a solid noir revenge tale, a scheme that could have been shown for the big screen. We have already seen our lead trying to help an old friend involved with gangsters. With here too predictable results. But who cares? Just enjoy this tremendous piece of work, directing and editing, no speaking of the production design, settings and so on...Nothing is confused here, unlike many TV stories of this kind, and many clichés avoided too. One very violent sequence, for the early sixties: one of the characters is killed by a burst of gunfire from a machine gun, in the back; and we see clearly the impacts on his coats, with the smoke emerging from the wounds. Very realistic for this early period, as was the Errol Flynn's death in ROOTS OF HEAVEN, shot one year earlier. A gloomy tale; I repeat, worth catching if you can. Ray Danton is perfect here, in a flawless performance.
