I don't understand folks like this, but it is interesting.

For decades, Richard Byrd made a name for himself though his exploits as a polar explorer. Unlike previous polar explorers like Amundsen and Peary, Byrd explored the poles in airplanes....much easier, of course, but still incredibly dangerous. As a result of this and his books he wrote chronicling his adventures, he quickly became an American hero. This installment of "The American Experience" is about his life...and particularly focused on these expeditions to the North and South Poles.

The show is moderately interesting...at least to me. I am not saying it's bad in any way...but that my reactions weren't possibly typical. I just kept thinking that life is so short....so why bother doing the hellish trips that Byrd took? But it is well made and is worth seeing despite this.
