A Titanic-like accident....where nearly everyone is saved.
"Rescue at Sea" is an installment of "The American Experience"...one of the best shows on television and which features documentaries about many topics related to American history.
"Rescue at Sea" is a show about how the wireless managed to save 1500 lives...something that was a first back in the early 20th century. It seems that the Republic and Florida both managed to collide at night and the passengers might have all died had it not been for the recent invention, the wireless. The film then talks about Marconi's invention as well the public's reaction to the wireless operator, Jack Binns, following the rescue. Overall, an unusual piece of history that mostly has been forgotten. Well made and never dull.
