Avatar Meets Deliverance

Definitely an underrated episode! Unlike the annoying band of hippies in episode 2 I found the swamp hicks to be genuinely hilarious. The spooky swamp is like a little Avatar style horror movie.

Everything is Connected

Warning: Spoilers
I like how Aang pays attention to what King Bumi about finding someone who listens to train him as an Earthbender, hence his reluctance not to listen to the Earth.

I like how Sokka is still haunted by his failure to save Princess Yue since that indicates that that wasn't simply something which happened in a previous episode without follow-up but something with a strong emotional impact on him.

I find the Swamp benders to be funny and love everything above Appa and Momo this episode. I like how there are Waterbenders from around the world rather than just the poles and how they're able to control the vines by bending the water inside. I don't care for how Aang's arrival in the swamp never gets an explanation (in this episode or any later one) but I do like the whole "everything is connected" theme.

That said, Prince Zuko steals every scene he's in (either as Zuko or as The Blue Spirit) and am left wanting to see more of his misadventures.

Avatar's a great show and this episode doesn't disappoint.

Disappointing Misrepresentation of Cajuns
trigunnerd7 April 2021
As a Cajun, I'm always looking for examples of good representation that celebrates our culture. In a show that has done well to uplift so many other cultures, I found no such like with my people here. The stereotypes were anything but subtle. Thick southern drawls, a mouth harp soundtrack, pirots, and, haha, those Cajuns will eat anything, won't they? This show has a lot to offer in terms of inclusivity, but this episode missed the mark.
