In the opening scene, when the team is told they are to be followed and filmed for a show about forensics Grissom retorts, "there are too many forensics shows on T.V." William Petersen was very vocally opposed to and fought vehemently against the CSI spin-offs CSI: NY (2004) and CSI: Miami (2002).
When Nick and Hodges discuss the time it needs to perform laser ablation of duct tape, Hodges mentions that on a TV show six hours would be edited down to 30 seconds. In the following montage, the time from Hodges taking the tape out of a bag until the end of the scene is exactly 30 seconds.
Grissom comments to the documentary crew "there are too many forensics shows on T.V." Not only was William Petersen opposed to and fought the spinoffs, he never starred in any of the spinoff episodes or their pilots.
