- Randy Marsh becomes a national hero after he discovers the reason why South Park residents are spontaneously combusting. Meanwhile, Kyle and Stan have a plan to help Kyle's dad get a res-erection.
- A wave of spontaneous combustion is sweeping through South Park, and the mayor charges Stan's father (a geologist) with finding the cause. After working feverishly on the problem, he finds the answer: people are holding in their farts for so long, they're bursting into flame. A grateful nation loosens its sphincters in relief, but their problems aren't over yet. - After hearing his parents arguing over how his Dad can't get an "erection," Kyle and his friends go out trying to get him one. However, they are confused when noone will help them.
As they walk down a street, they are even further surprised when Kenny suddenly spontaneously combusts! Seeing the town in a panic, the Mayor turns to Randy Marsh, since he's a scientist (well, a geologist).
Randy questions the boys, who say that Kenny was taking the bus in recent weeks to see his new girlfriend (presumably Kelly from the previous episode, "Rainforest Shmainforest"). Randy takes note of this, and when another case of spontaneous combustion happens, a person close to the victim claims that the woman was going to see her boyfriend.
Meanwhile, Father Maxi asks the boys to perform the "Stations of the Cross" at church. When they hear how it tells of Jesus being resurrected, the boys misconstrue this to mean "Resurr-erection." The three of them perform the "Stations" for the church, and after tying Cartman to a cross, put him up on a hill, figuring that in 3 days, he'll get a resurr-erection that they can give to Kyle's Dad. Needless to say, Cartman isn't happy.
Back in town, Randy Marsh explains his theory to people: Kenny and the other victim died because they refused to fart, due to seeing their significant others. Randy explains that unless people fart, the gas builds up, and can lead to spontaneous combustion. The town soon begins to not hold back regarding farting, and Randy is hailed as a hero. Randy even wins a Nobel Prize for his efforts, infuriating Dr Mephisto (who was hoping to win for his seven-assed galapegos turtle).
As the town continues to fart, everyone notices that it seems to be getting even hotter. Soon, Mephisto explains that the increase in farting has caused a greenhouse effect, and everyone in town soon blames Randy. Everyone also finds themselves in a quandary: fart and continue to deplete the ozone layer, or hold it in and face spontaneous combustion.
Meanwhile, Kyle's Dad Gerald is visited by 3 hookers who claim they want to sue Randy Marsh for giving them skin cancer. After examining their bodies, it soon becomes apparent that Gerald will have no trouble pleasuring his wife anytime soon. When Kyle hears from his Dad that everything is going to be alright, he cheers up.
In order to save face, Randy soon comes up with a solution to the environmental problem: moderation. It's ok to fart, just not all the time. Everyone accepts this proposal, and Randy's life returns to normal.
Meanwhile, in the wake of all this, Kyle and Stan realize that Cartman is still tied to the cross. Returning, they find him having survived on the fat stored in his body. Now whispy thin, Cartman demands to be let down so he can kick them both "square in the nuts."
