- Sales are down again and the staff has a meeting to find new ideas. They come up with a fashion show and run a demo show to try and impress Mr.Grace.
- Rumbold reprimanding Peacock for wearing a hat not fitting his rank by ancient firm rules triggers a series of head-ware instructions. Unable to explain plummeting sales figures to the board, Rumbold steals Peacock's idea to start a 'think tank'. As everybody has excuses after hours, it's set next morning, an hour early. Meanwhile Mr. Mash is instructed to wash the female mannequins 'nunnery style'. After innovative ideas are discarded as impractical or too expensive, Rumbold steals Peacock's 'modified' idea for a fashion parade. Mr. Grace must improve it after a cheap demo version with the staff as models and Lucas as MC, which yields no actual change in the end.—KGF Vissers
- The age old battle of status is brought to a head as Mr. Rumbold reprimands Captain Peacock for wearing a hat (a bowler) that is above his status in the company and Captain Peacock proceeds to take it out on his lessors. Sales are in a decline and Mr. Rumbold calls a staff meeting for that evening to find new ideas to boost the sales; but when no one can attend except Mr. Grainger, Mr. Rumbold decides an early morning session at 8 a.m. would be better. The next morning a tired staff debates the benefit of having a sale, a celebrity signing trousers, or electric nickers, at last Mr. Rumbold's stolen idea of a fashion parade is accepted. The staff dress up in "ordinary clothes" and show off for Mr. Grace's approval. In the end Mr. Grace decision is final and they have a sale. Also, Mr. Rumbold agrees with Mr. Grace that Captain Peacock looks best in a bowler hat.—HR
