Excellent Episode!
g-bodyl15 August 2014
This is the fifteenth episode of the third season of the Simpsons and once again, we have another great episode on our hands. It's fresh, funny, and really entertaining. There are many highlights including the scenes where Bart and Lisa had to eat tongue sandwiches and where there was a shady confrontation between Mayor Quimby and Chief Wiggum.

In this episode, "Homer Alone," Marge has a very stressful day and she has a mental breakdown. She decides to take a personal vacation, leaving Bart and Lisa in the care of Selma and Patty and Maggie in Homer's care. But once Homer loses Maggie, all hell breaks lose.

Overall, this is a great episode and my favorite part is Homer trying to find Maggie before Marge returns home. Of course, Bart and Lisa tortuous stay at Marge's sisters is also great to watch. I rate this episode 9/10.

An often forgotten episode from season 3 with more than a little punch
athomed2 January 2012
The premise of this episode is that Marge is extremely overworked. She has a nervous breakdown and decides a vacation by herself would be for the best. Taking some time for herself thrusts the rest of the Simpsons' family into chaos.

Bart and Lisa go to Patty and Selma's apartment while Maggie stays with Homer at the house. Looking after Maggie for a full day drains Homer, while having to sleep in a bed with Patty and Selma completely terrifies Bart and Lisa.

Some scenes really sparkle in this episode. An exchange between Chief Wiggum and Mayor Quimby is one of them. Troy McClure, as always, shines in this episode as well.

There's a lot to like here but nothing that elevates "Homer Alone" into one of the best from season 3. Give it a watch.

Even in a grounded episode you get touches of the absurd
CubsandCulture25 August 2021
This episode begins with a funny riff on a Roadrunner cartoon's trope of character freezing and having a funny name for the character. It is one of the absurd touches that the episode has. It is noteworthy because this is one of the most grounded and thoughtful episodes up until this point in the series. The writing of Marge here is really relatable especially to those who grew up in the "typical" nuclear family. This manages to be really funny and almost touching.

"Mommy went crazy and went far-far away..." Just wonderful!
I love this episode very much, it has a special place in my heart and is among my all time favourites of the show. I love most of the season 3 episodes because it was just such a special time in the show's life and you could really see the rich creativity that was at work reflected in the stories that were being put out, they had such a fantastic blend of laughter and heart to them, and this one I find especially joyful to watch from beginning to end, I love the pacing, how all the little side plots go together and play off just how much Marge really does hold them all together. I find all the scenes with just Maggie and Homer to be simply precious, it's fun to see different family members interacting more than they normally would, and it's so cosy and sweet at the end when the last one to go to sleep is Maggie, happily reunited at last. There's not a minute that I don't find fun and greatly charming. To say it involves a character's hilarious mental breakdown following a morning straight from hell, the tone is quite mellow and calm afterwards, it's like we take a little break along with Marge as she orders her cheesecake with tequila! To me this was always one of the best, and it's still funny warm and excellently put together, an early heartwarming Simpsons classic! 🌻

Mother!
safenoe14 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Fifteen years before Mother!, written and directed by Darren Aronofsky, was released, we have Homer Alone which really is about the mom, Marge, losing it big time (sans pram and) and we see Marge recovering from her breakdown at a retreat to get away from it all.

Homer has to fend for himself and he ends up losing and then finding Maggie before it's too late. Bart and Lisa have the shock of their lives being looked after by Aunty Selma and Aunty Patty (they are the sisters of Marge, not Homer).

Everyone is thankful Marge is back and it's all back to normal with Marge being a bit more appreciated.

You think you know fear

Family life makes Marge snap and she goes on holiday (vacation) to relax.

This is a strong episode with good relatable humour.

The plot works very well for the comedy, as we recognise so many stressful moments in Marge's day. Everything leading to her meltdown in the car builds the pressure and is very funny.

Afterwards it's about Homer, Bart, Lisa and Maggie trying to cope without Marge. It's only right that they fail miserably and pay great testament to matriarchs everywhere.

For me it's an 8.5/10 but I round upwards.

Marge Blows a Gasket
Hitchcoc18 April 2022
Poor Marge is so put upon that she has a complete breakdown. She goes on a solo vacation, leaving Homer in charge of the family. The older kids stay with their chain smoking aunts and Maggie stays with her father. The lonely baby takes off and Homer is at his helpless worst. There are some really funny political comments. Good episode.

Homer said the name of Trump here as a rich man but now he is the president of US!
