The Reverend Philip Lambe has a very sleepy, idyllic parish, but unlike his family, he's unsettled and bored, he's offered a tougher parish in the Midlands.
It's a solid first episode, with a few chuckles. If I was honest I'd say this was a typical 1980's British sitcom, everything is all very functional, there's the boy and girl, the wife, the golf course, it's incredibly middle class, safe humour. I know this takes a change in direction, but this first part feels like a toned down version of Hallelujah, without Thora Hird.
James Cossins adds a few laughs as the bossy Major, and Briers as always was a delight.
Just a bit on the safe side. 6/10
