E! Mysteries & Scandals: James Whale (1998)
Jim Curtis (biographer), Gregory Mank (film historian), Anthony Slide (film historian), Gary Rhodes (film historian), Gavin Lambert (friend), Michael Blake (Larry Blake's son) and Curtis Harrington, (friend) are on hand to discuss the quick rise and quicker fall of director James Whale.
Whale's story was certainly an interesting one and this episode gathers up some of the greatest minds in the horror community as they discuss what led the director to commit suicide. The episode covers his early days, his time in the war and then gets to his Hollywood career and how it fell apart so quickly and largely due to Hitler. If you're a fan of Whale then you'll certainly enjoy hearing these stories and the interviews are just terrific. There's really not too much of a mystery surrounding what happened to Whale but at one time there was due to... Well, the episode gets into that.
