- TriviaAccording to writer and story editor David Gerrold, "Cha-Ka" and The Sleestak God (1974) were originally shown the one hour pilot used to sell the series to the network, which was intentionally structured so that it could later be cut into two half-hour shows.
- GoofsWhen Cha-Ka rejoins his people it is night out. When Grumpy appears and chases the family to their cave, implied to only be a few minutes later, the sky is light.
- Quotes
Park Ranger Rick Marshall: [referring to Grumpy] He never learns, does he?
Holly Marshall: Well, what do you expect? His brain's only the size of a walnut.

A good first episode to a childhood favorite
This was the first episode to the original LAND OF THE LOST in 1974. In this first episode we are introduced to the Marshall Family headed by Patriarch Rick Marshall, his son Will , and his daughter Holly. There is never any mention of the family mother so it is unknown what the status of her is. The family of 3 find themselves in a mysterious land after traveling in a raft only to find themselves in a land of dinosaurs and other strange things after going down a waterfall.
In this episode we are also introduced to Cha Ka, a combination of ape and caveman would be the best description well played by actor Phillip Paley.
Cha Ka is injured running from a Tyrannosaurus Rex the Marshall Family has decided to call "Grumpy". Cha Ka is nursed back to health and he takes leave of the family only to return in the dark later to show his appreciation by leaving giant fruits at the foot of the cave The Marshalls live in.
This first episode was written by David Gerrold, famous for writing an episode of Star Trek called "The Trouble With Tribbles".
