An unusual installment of "The American Experience"
planktonrules2 August 2023
"Eric Sevareid's Not So Wild a Dream" is a most unusual installment of "The American Experience" for many reasons. First, it was written and directed by Sevareid....and usually shows are made by a group of people about some famous person or events. Second, the film is not a complete bio of Sevareid but about a portion of his life and the philosophical changes in him. And, interestingly, it was narrated by Sevareid himself!

To my generation, Eric Sevareid was some elderly newsman who appeared on CBS news on TV when I was a kid. I had no idea that he'd been a war correspondent nor that he'd been a pacifist with a rather liberal bent during his youth. The film shows a progression from his childhood to liberal activism to pacifist...to a pro-war anti-Fascist. Overall, this progression in the show is interesting and I enjoyed the program...even though it was VERY different. Worth seeing.
