So To Speak In The Silents
boblipton8 January 2023
Alyce Ardell joins a secret society of flappers. After a few minutes of initiation in a funhouse, She is dressed as a man and told to go to room 108 at a hotel. The other flappers beat her there, tell the desk clerk that a girl dressed as a man will be in room 108, and go to await her. However, Miss Ardell reads the number upside down, and registers in room 801, reserved for Prince Billy Engle. Confusion ensues.

Producer Joe Rock was trying to promote Miss Ardell in a series of short comedies. While she was beautiful, she had none of the training, so Rock surrounded her with skilled comics: not only Engle, but Billy Franey as a photographer trying to get shots of the Prince. There are some well run gags, mostly with Franey and the supporting cast who think Miss Ardell as the Prince is a fashion setter. The result offers a goodly number of laughs, albeit unremarkable for a stellar year for comedy two-reelers.
