The pilots aren't able to do anything as hacking by an angel puts the technology in jeopardy. It tries to take control and cause a self destruct in the Magi computer system (a trio of computer programs that run the city) and very nearly succeeds but is thwarted by Ritsuko who says that the magi represent 3 aspects of her mother; woman, scientist and mother. She respected her as a scientist but hated her as a mother. Goodness, another character with parental issues.
Well time for I to sum things up halfway in. The ripping off of the original Gundam that was so prevalent in the first episodes went but then Asuka came along and the navel gazing, self pitying and parental issues continue apace but there's not much actual depth or philosophising. So far I feel exactly what I thought before going into it; that this show is not smart, it just makes its viewers feel smart. The supposedly weird and philosophising part of the show that I think is really what people mean by Evangelion, and not the standard monster of the week show we've had so far, hasn't come along yet and even if it is as good as people think it is it will still only be half of the show. What little hope there was of this show matching the oceans of hype surrounding it is gone.
