Quotes
-
Michael Anthony : [Meeting the Franklins at their front door] My name is Michael Anthony.
Claire Franklin : We've been waiting for you.
Michael Anthony : Waiting for me?
Claire Franklin : I'm Claire Franklin. Won't you come in, Mr. Anthony?
[Anthony enters]
Michael Anthony : [to Franklin] Mr. William Franklin?
Bill Franklin : Yes. I've got nothing to do with this little clambake my wife is steaming up.
Claire Franklin : Did you bring your copy with you?
Michael Anthony : I think there must be a misunderstanding. I have something for Mr. Franklin, but it's not a copy. It's the real thing.
[Opens his briefcase and retrieves a check]
Michael Anthony : It's a tax-free gift of $1,000,000.
Bill Franklin : [Chuckles] We should hire you to conduct our promotions, Mister...
Claire Franklin : Anthony.
Michael Anthony : [Offers the check] It's yours to do with as you wish.
[Franklin accepts check]
Claire Franklin : Who wants to give us a million dollars?
Michael Anthony : The donor insists on remaining anonymous.
Bill Franklin : Yes, but why? A million dollars!
Claire Franklin : You've seen him? You mean he's real?
Michael Anthony : [Removes document from his briefcase] Oh he's real, and so is the condition.
Bill Franklin : [to his wife] It's a cashier's check. It's real.
Michael Anthony : Will you please sign this, promising never to reveal to anyone else the exact amount of this gift or the circumstances under which you received it.
Bill Franklin : You mean all I have to do to get a million dollars is to sign this?
[Dumbfounded, to his wife]
Bill Franklin : What's my name?
Claire Franklin : Bill - I think.
[Franklin signs and Anthony returns the agreement to his briefcase]
Claire Franklin : Oh , Mr. Anthony, aren't we ever going to find out who gave us this?
Michael Anthony : No! If you did, the money would be reclaimed.
Bill Franklin : Whoever it is, thank him for us.
Michael Anthony : Good bye, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin, and good luck.
[Prepares to leave]
Claire Franklin : Good bye, Mr. Anthony. Thank you very much.
Michael Anthony : You are more than welcome,
[Anthony departs]
Bill Franklin : [to his wife] I told you that I'd be a millionaire someday, didn't I? Only I didn't believe it myself.
